When I completed the Linking Book, I estimated that it was already late in New D'ni, so I quietly announced my intention to the young people of returning there in the morning rather than immediately. I've been here in my room studying architectural materials and making sketches for hours.

It has occurred to me that should Luesa be as enthralled with this place as I am, she might be inclined to make immediate use of it, or to spread news of it amongst her friends. That could develop into an unfortunate situation. If news of this place becomes common, then guildsmen will flock here, discover its architectural resources, and I can almost guarantee that my plans would be lost in a sea of submissions influenced by the treasures of Sea Cliff.

I will have to be very persuasive with Luesa, but as she loves me, and as my benefit is her benefit, I should be able to manage to contain her activity for a short time. Putting Klayo off is another matter, of course. I will suggest that the house, while structurally sound and beautiful, is suffering from the more than a century and half's neglect and should be thoroughly cleaned and rid of pests before Klayo bothers with it. His fear of small creeping things is almost legendary and I've little doubt that will do the trick, if Luesa agrees.

Perhaps something might also be done along the lines of the upcoming choice of new Council Members which Luesa mentioned to me. At the moment Klayo's greatest ambition is to sit on the Council. If he could be persuaded that it's best to keep the place secret until it can be most effectively used, that will give me the time I'd need. Then, all I'd have to hope for is that Eamon and Tewa don't speak much of it and excite anyone's curiosity.

How weary I am of having to expend energy in these maneuvers when I should like to use it solely in more worthy pursuits. If all goes well, though, I may someday find myself in the enviable position of living more openly by my hard work and talent rather than surviving by strategy.

Luesa has agreed with more alacrity than I could have imagined! Her first thoughts were for how my chances would be affected by her actions! How miserable I would be without my dear sister! In so many ways she has blessed my life. She is the only one who truly cares for me in a personal way.

Luesa tells me she told Klayo about the dust and dirt first, the vermin second, and while his flesh was still crawling at the thought of that, suggested that he wait and use the place to utmost effect at the best possible time. She told him not to give the work of getting Sea Cliff into shape another thought, she'd not bother him with the details. Let him concentrate on more important things, while she managed the mundane.

Klayo does not misplace his trust in my sister's abilities, however much help she gives me. She has been a blessing to him since the day of their marriage. I don't think he'd have had nearly half the success he's had without her understanding and support.

I have brought many of the most important reference books back to my room at the Guild House and have burned the fire marbles late into the night working on my own plans after my guild work is done for the day. So deep is my desire to succeed that my energy has been unflagging. My plans are finished and ready for submission. I only await the last day but one before the closing date to submit them.
