One of the Riven natives chosen by Gehn to learn to write in order to assist him in his work. The young man questioned Gehn, and in his fury, Gehn forced the other Guild members to kill him by feeding him to the sea, saying that if they refused, he'd destroy their world. (BoA 240)

A D'ni word meaning "sleep." (D'ni Dictionary)

Ederat

The Age which Veovis wrote for A'Gaeris. Aitrus altered the Descriptive Book, turning the Age into an inferno. Both he and A'Gaeris died there. (BoT 314-317)

Eder Gira

Eder Gira was one of the garden Ages of the D'ni that were Written during the 8100's DE. In this Age we have seen an active lava fissure, desert ground, waterfalls, pools and caves. There is a great deal more to this Age than we have seen. Some of it can be glimpsed through the tall spires of rock surrounding the area of our initial exploration.

Eder Kemo

Eder Kemo was one of the garden Ages of the D'ni that were Written during the 8100's DE. This Age has a walled garden which is divided into sections containing different landscaping. There are pleasant gazebos, a fountain, and a pool containing fish. This Age was named for an indigenous fish, the Kemo.

eder tomahn

A D'ni way station, a place to rest while traveling. (BoA 66) Eder tomahn literally means "sleep house." (D'ni Dictionary)

Educators, Guild of

The Minor Guild of Educators was established during the reign of King Mararon circa 1124 DE. A paper called "Minor Guilds," written by Ti Lanar of the Guild of Legislators, convinced King Mararon to institute minor guilds for the good of the D'ni people. The Guild of Educators was among the first of these guilds to be established.

Efanis

The young man, a guildsman of the Surveryors, who died during the tunneling to the surface of earth. (BoT 35)

Eneah, Lord

Lord Eneah was one of the Five Great Lords during the time just before the great destruction of D'ni.

Environmental Verification suit

Also called an E.V. suit, the Environmental Verification suit was made and used by the Guild of Maintainers to check the Ages for safety. It was constructed of jet-black deretheni stone, with special hydraulics for a small degree of flexibility, a helmet with polarized visor, and gloves into which specially constructed linking books were inserted that could be set on a timer to bring back the occupant of the suit, conscious or not, alive or dead. Er'cana

One of the Age discovered in the ruins of D'ni by the DRC. From its name, we believe it is probably one of the great food producing Ages of the Guild of Caterers. (see BoT 41 for examples)

Erlar

A native of Riven, younger brother to Carel and also Katran's (Catherine's) cousin. He was one of those who helped Atrus after his near drowning in Riven. (BoA 224-6)

Excavator

A self-contained vessel used by the Guild of Surveyors in their work. An excavator contained, among other things, crew quarters, bathing quarters, sample stores, equipment storage, and a refectory (where food was prepared). It had a special cabin for the guild master. It was long and sinuous like a huge segmented worm. (see description on pages 5, 6, and 10 of BoT)
